What to Expect

Perhaps you are accessing therapy for the first time, or it has been a little while and you may have worked with different therapists with different approaches; either way, I appreciate that starting therapy can be daunting, especially if you don't know what to expect, and so here is a brief explanation.

You can call, message or WhatsApp me on 07355 992592 or email me at to arrange a free 30 minute telephone consultation. We can have a chat about your difficulties, your expectations of therapy and you can ask any questions you may have. I will also help you to understand how you can get the most out of your therapy sessions.

Preparing For Our First Session

If, after the telephone consultation, you decide to book in, we will find an appointment slot, which is convenient for you. 

I will send you detailed instructions on how to find me, if you are coming in, or I will send you an MS Teams link.

I will ask you to think about your goals for therapy, which we can go through in more detail in our first session.

Therapy Sessions

Once you have decided on your goals for therapy, we will take some time to gain a shared understanding of your difficulties. This is often done in a visual way, mapping out the connections between your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Sometimes it's helpful to go back and think about past experiences, which have changed your beliefs about yourself, others and the world.

At the start of each session, we agree an agenda to make sure you are getting what you want and need from each session. 

CBT is an active therapy and so you will have the opportunity to make changes, and put things into practice, in between sessions.

I offer bespoke therapy that is tailored to your individual needs and goals. It combines evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with mindfulness, relaxation, and self-compassion techniques to help you make lasting, positive changes in your life. Through this personalised approach, you will be empowered to make meaningful changes in how you see yourself, others, and the world around you. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to gain increased self-awareness, greater understanding of the brain-body connection and take back control.
